Lately I've been teetering on the precipice of reading a whole lot of Rodney McKay fic. I don't actually know what started this, because I really haven't been watching SGA at all beyond the weekly eps, but anyway, it's hovering there, on the verge of taking over my brain. And I might be having a tiny little fling with Sam/Rodney but don't kick me out of the Sam/Jack club, please? Thanks.

Fortuitously, a number of people have been very obliging in providing me with lovely stuff to read without even knowing this was going on. *g* Here's one I just read that I liked very much:

Past Roads Taken by [livejournal.com profile] ziparumpazoo. Short but great exploration of Rodney in the Road Not Taken universe. I love her take on Rodney's attraction to and interaction with Sam, both ours and the AU version.

So, anybody got any Rodney McKay must-reads they want to rec me? Gen or otherwise is good.

Other than that, I'm beginning to suspect that there is some sort of conservation of words in the universe. And the people who are doing NaNo are using them all right now. *g*

Enjoy!

The Same Boy You've Always Known (http://01100100.fanfib.org/fanfiction/sg/boy.html) - Sam and Rodney and the not-quite-end of the world.

Once Upon a Time (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/500267.html) - Rodney and a bunch of alien kids

[livejournal.com profile] friendshipper writes AWESOME Rodney (lots of John and Rodney friendship) and Running on Empty (http://friendshipper.laylalawlor.com/running.shtml) may be my favorite along with Candle in the Dark (http://friendshipper.laylalawlor.com/candle.shtml)

Stumbling Around (Underground) (http://teaphile.livejournal.com/294345.html) is Daniel/Rodney in Antarctica. It might not be your cup of tea, but I like it a lot. And I like seeing Rodney through Daniel's eyes (since Daniel hadn't really met him until now)

Red Light on a Wedding Night (http://raisintorte.livejournal.com/117682.html) is Sam/Daniel/John/Rodney gen aliens made them do it (yes, you read that right). I dare you not to fall out of your chair laughing.

And if you take a self-pimp, my first SGA fic is arguably a story about John, but is in a lot of ways Rodney's story: Distance From Here to Wherever You Are (http://abyssinia4077.livejournal.com/111589.html)

YAY! Thank you so much. (And yes, I'll totally take self-pimping! I thought there'd be something good in your archive. *g*)

From: [identity profile] abyssinia4077.livejournal.com
Hee, you're welcome!

I actually started out in SGA before I moved to SG-1, but I only have a small handful of fics in that fandom and only two I really feel are worth pimping - one John-focused and the one I linked above, which is the longest thing I've ever written, but I think I really nailed Rodney (and there's a Rodney - Sam scene, written when the only Sam I knew was from "Grace Under Pressure" where she's a hallucination in Rodney's head (and maybe the tiny scene of her in "McKay and Mrs. Miller" but I'm not sure....)).

I don't know anyone who could kick you out, don't worry! We've all flirted with other pairings.(Well, except Annerb, and she's probably too nice.) And OH YOUR COLORS ON THIS JOURNAL ARE AMAZING. I don't know why, but I especially like them. *stares*

From: [identity profile] mrspollifax.livejournal.com
Hee! I guess it was inevitable. And, you know, it's the *show* I fell in love with first. =)

I can't believe I made my journal all pink! But I really like it, too. I was feeling sort of cheerfully girly-modern the other day, and then I found this icon and decided I needed to hunt down new theme to match it, lol. But now half my icons clash with the pink, so I may have to get a bunch of new ones. Oh, the hardship!

I don't read much SGA fic, but I have betaed read this one by [livejournal.com profile] aelfgyfu_mead It's nice Sam/Rodney friendship at least. Truth and Consequences (http://aelfgyfu.com/TruthAndConsequences.html). She's also written a couple others dealing with SGA team and Carson and also a McKay centered fic where he meets with Heightmeyer.

Also, there was a couple cute Sam and Rodney fics posted at [livejournal.com profile] sg_rarepairings, including ...oh never mind. In pulling the link I see you've *read* Statistical Improbabilities. LOL

I also agree with the rec about [livejournal.com profile] friendshipper. She writes very good gen SGA fic. (Abyssis pulled me to her site).

Um, have you ever read the SG-1/SGA crossover Shadow over Chatsworth (http://soulcake.skeeter63.org/chatsworth.html)? It's Daniel and Rodney...a big whumping kinda fic, but also creepy/spooky. By [livejournal.com profile] saffronhouse.

Edited because Chatsworth is gen. I abbreviated Jackson and McKay with a slash, but then realized that...implies a relationship that really isn't in this fic. (not that there's anything wrong with that).

ETA: (Also, if the Sam/Jack clubbers kick you out, though you hang out with the cool ones, so I don't see that happening, genners like me and the multishippers will give you refuge).

Excellent! *glees* Thank you thank you! I can count the number of non-Sam SGA fics I've read on my ten fingers, I think, and they've all come from recs, so I totally need tour guides for this.

(I love fandom, in all its crazy permutations. Gen, ship, slash, I'm actually fairly ecumenical. My biggest problem is actually attention span, lol, so I do gravitate towards the shorter stuff. And my flist is pretty fabulous!)

Aw. That's too sweet of you to say. Don't think anybody will kick you out though. Remember Infinite numbers of parrallele universes, infinite variations of Rodney and Sam.

I watch SGA out of loyalty to the franchise but I don't *love* the characters the same way I do with SG1. The Shrine won me over though - it was Rodney's Flowers for Algernon moment and it was amazing to see him so undone.

You just so helpfully fed me exactly what I was looking for! I had to share. =)

I admit, I'm often like you about SGA. Rodney's always been my favorite of the main characters on SGA by miles and miles - partly because we've seen him evolve starting way back on SG-1, I think, but also I just *love* David Hewlett. I don't connect as well with the others. I really love some of the recurring characters on SGA, though - Lorne, of course, and Zelenka, and I really like Keller, too. Oh, and Carson! I miss Carson. Anyway, I digress.

And yes, The Shrine was fantastic.

ah ha! t'was you sending subliminal messages through subspace...ok, if you're that talented think you can jump start my galpalficathon idea that you sideswiped? *aluminum foil helmet removed*

Side note: check out David Hewlett in Cube. It will appeal to your geeky side and DH is so very very young in it.

My Rodney vibes derailed your galpal fic? Uhoh. Get back to work on that! Hee. Mine's not cooperating either. I really don't know if I'm going to get it done. I even went back to the prompt list last night and picked a different prompt - and then ran into a brick wall with that one. GRRARGH. Ficathons are not my friend.

Side note: check out David Hewlett in Cube.

Excellent. *makes note* Thanks for the rec!

Rodney is such an awesome character. When SGA goes, it will be him that I miss the most. :(

Hmm. Most of the Rodney fic that I read is mcshep and you probably don't want that...

I thought this was an absolutely marvelous fic: Freedoms Just Another Word (http://www.kekkai.org/synecdochic/sga/freedoms_just_another_word.html). It's very vaguely Sheppard/McKay, but mostly just McKay and is just a marvelous read.

[livejournal.com profile] sdani has lots of SGA recs at her LJ under the SGA tag. Sadly, she hasn't posted any recs in awhile.

While it's true I ship Sam with... just about everyone *g* I do have a special love for Sam/Rodney. And I'm totally taking advantage of the recs in this post. I'd add anything by [livejournal.com profile] agentotter, and I've also enjoyed JD11 on ff.net (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/196201/JD11), and here (http://astridv.livejournal.com/95756.html) is a great recs page with lots of Rodney/Sam and SGA gen amongst other things.

Edited because including the actual links would be helpful.

Hee. Actually, the Sam/Rodney bit of this is at least partly your fault, because I ran across a link to your Yes Sir, That's My Baby (http://ijemanja.livejournal.com/61075.html) on delicious a few weeks ago and was very excited and said "Hey! Stargate fic by ijemanja that I haven't read!" And so I read it even though they're not a pairing I'd read much of before, and I really loved it. Your other Sam/Rodney fics are definitely on my 'to read' list.

Thanks very much for the other links!

Um, not a fic, but this essay (http://community.livejournal.com/ship_manifesto/103294.html) perfectly illustrates why Sam and Rodney are made of awesomesauce.

I do have a few fics bookmarked, but they are somewhat...adult in nature, and I don't know if that's your thing.

Meta is good stuff too! Thanks for the link.

And sure, I'd love the other links, too. I sort of go through phases where I do and don't read at the more adult end of the fic spectrum, but it's really just a what-am-I-in-the-mood-for thing. =)

And an oldy but a goody, Kate McKaye's post-Grace Under Pressure fic: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2776918/1/

It's Sam and McKay and unexpected!Jack ... hilarity ensues!
