Lately I've been teetering on the precipice of reading a whole lot of Rodney McKay fic. I don't actually know what started this, because I really haven't been watching SGA at all beyond the weekly eps, but anyway, it's hovering there, on the verge of taking over my brain. And I might be having a tiny little fling with Sam/Rodney but don't kick me out of the Sam/Jack club, please? Thanks.
Fortuitously, a number of people have been very obliging in providing me with lovely stuff to read without even knowing this was going on. *g* Here's one I just read that I liked very much:
Past Roads Taken by
ziparumpazoo. Short but great exploration of Rodney in the Road Not Taken universe. I love her take on Rodney's attraction to and interaction with Sam, both ours and the AU version.
So, anybody got any Rodney McKay must-reads they want to rec me? Gen or otherwise is good.
Other than that, I'm beginning to suspect that there is some sort of conservation of words in the universe. And the people who are doing NaNo are using them all right now. *g*

Date: 2008-11-06 04:35 pm (UTC)The Same Boy You've Always Known (http://01100100.fanfib.org/fanfiction/sg/boy.html) - Sam and Rodney and the not-quite-end of the world.
Once Upon a Time (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/500267.html) - Rodney and a bunch of alien kids
Stumbling Around (Underground) (http://teaphile.livejournal.com/294345.html) is Daniel/Rodney in Antarctica. It might not be your cup of tea, but I like it a lot. And I like seeing Rodney through Daniel's eyes (since Daniel hadn't really met him until now)
Red Light on a Wedding Night (http://raisintorte.livejournal.com/117682.html) is Sam/Daniel/John/Rodney gen aliens made them do it (yes, you read that right). I dare you not to fall out of your chair laughing.
And if you take a self-pimp, my first SGA fic is arguably a story about John, but is in a lot of ways Rodney's story: Distance From Here to Wherever You Are (http://abyssinia4077.livejournal.com/111589.html)

Date: 2008-11-06 06:31 pm (UTC)I actually started out in SGA before I moved to SG-1, but I only have a small handful of fics in that fandom and only two I really feel are worth pimping - one John-focused and the one I linked above, which is the longest thing I've ever written, but I think I really nailed Rodney (and there's a Rodney - Sam scene, written when the only Sam I knew was from "Grace Under Pressure" where she's a hallucination in Rodney's head (and maybe the tiny scene of her in "McKay and Mrs. Miller" but I'm not sure....)).

Date: 2008-11-06 06:02 pm (UTC)I can't believe I made my journal all pink! But I really like it, too. I was feeling sort of cheerfully girly-modern the other day, and then I found this icon and decided I needed to hunt down new theme to match it, lol. But now half my icons clash with the pink, so I may have to get a bunch of new ones. Oh, the hardship!

I also agree with the rec about
Um, have you ever read the SG-1/SGA crossover Shadow over Chatsworth (http://soulcake.skeeter63.org/chatsworth.html)? It's Daniel and Rodney...a big whumping kinda fic, but also creepy/spooky. By
Edited because Chatsworth is gen. I abbreviated Jackson and McKay with a slash, but then realized that...implies a relationship that really isn't in this fic. (not that there's anything wrong with that).
ETA: (Also, if the Sam/Jack clubbers kick you out, though you hang out with the cool ones, so I don't see that happening, genners like me and the multishippers will give you refuge).

Date: 2008-11-06 06:16 pm (UTC)(I love fandom, in all its crazy permutations. Gen, ship, slash, I'm actually fairly ecumenical. My biggest problem is actually attention span, lol, so I do gravitate towards the shorter stuff. And my flist is pretty fabulous!)

Date: 2008-11-06 05:53 pm (UTC)I watch SGA out of loyalty to the franchise but I don't *love* the characters the same way I do with SG1. The Shrine won me over though - it was Rodney's Flowers for Algernon moment and it was amazing to see him so undone.

Date: 2008-11-06 06:37 pm (UTC)I admit, I'm often like you about SGA. Rodney's always been my favorite of the main characters on SGA by miles and miles - partly because we've seen him evolve starting way back on SG-1, I think, but also I just *love* David Hewlett. I don't connect as well with the others. I really love some of the recurring characters on SGA, though - Lorne, of course, and Zelenka, and I really like Keller, too. Oh, and Carson! I miss Carson. Anyway, I digress.
And yes, The Shrine was fantastic.

Date: 2008-11-06 06:40 pm (UTC)Rodney is such an awesome character. When SGA goes, it will be him that I miss the most. :(
Hmm. Most of the Rodney fic that I read is mcshep and you probably don't want that...

And I'll take those recs, too, if you have any you want to share. SGA has got to be one of the slashiest shows on television, lol.

Date: 2008-11-07 06:30 am (UTC)And sure, I'd love the other links, too. I sort of go through phases where I do and don't read at the more adult end of the fic spectrum, but it's really just a what-am-I-in-the-mood-for thing. =)
