Book meme! I actually did this the other day but hadn't gotten around to posting it yet. Seen a bunch of places.

Don’t take too long to think about it.
Fifteen books you’ve read that will always stick with you.
First fifteen you can recall in no more than 15 minutes.
Copy the instructions into your own post.

1) The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
2) The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien
3) Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank
4) Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
5) Harry Potter series by JK Rowling
6) Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
7) 1984 by George Orwell
8) Our Town by Thornton Wilder (okay, technically a play, but we read it in English class)
9) Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters
10) The Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis
11) A Wrinkle in Time series by Madeleine L'engle
12) The Belgariad series by David Eddings
13) The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge
14) At Home in Mitford by Jan Karon
15) Inherit the Stars by James P Hogan

I made this list in just a couple of minutes, and if I sat and thought about it I'd probably change it a lot (there are some things that now surprise me didn't come to mind immediately, and there's at least one thing on the list that I'm resisting the urge to apologize for). Something that's interesting to me is that, doing the list completely off the cuff as I did, all but three of the things on the list were books I read before the age of 18. That's basically half a lifetime ago, for a frame of reference. And a lot of them I associate with particular events or people. So yeah, I'm not sure exactly what that means, but it's interesting.

In things totally unrelated, last night I started trying to bring some order to the chaos that is the fic-writing portion of my hard drive. It's less that the folders aren't organized – I have a system, although I suspect it wouldn't look like a system to anyone but me, and I usually follow it, except when I'm in a hurry to save something – and more that I have so many unfinished fics and bits of fic that when I'm feeling uninspired, I just bounce around from one unfinished project to the next and basically make no progress.

Anyway, now I have a spreadsheet! With word counts and notes and file links and copious self-snarking and blaming of other people, hehe. It already has an intimidating amount of entries, and I'm not actually done adding stuff yet, but it is much easier now to navigate the jungle. *feels accomplished*

(Also I am not starting anything new until I finish some of these, or at least consign a few of them to the folder of death. I am not.)

11) A Wrinkle in Time series by Madeleine L'engle
This is #1 on my list (and why does this not surprise me that it's on yours too?)

I am not surprised at all. *g* And if I reordered the list to indicate significance, I imagine that one would be much higher to the top.

I left off The Wrinkle in Time series and regretted it later. Great books.

And I left of all Marguerite Henry off of mine! My list could definitely be much longer. :)

blaming of other people
Uh, oh. I have a feeling I appear many times on that list. Or at least beta'ing my fic appears on the list of blame *g*

Go you, being all organized! :)

Hee. Actually I should send you the spreadsheet - it might amuse you.

I probably should have put Wrinkle in Time on mine, too! These lists are really interesting...

They are! It's neat to see what people think of. I did mine before I looked anyone else's, and then I was astonished that I'd totally left all of the Narnia books off of mine. Especially considering I had another CS Lewis book on there! Fun meme.

Funny, I have the book meme sitting on my computer too, but I keep changing my mind, so I haven't posted it. It's funny where it overlaps and where it is different.

How late DID you stay up spread sheeting?

You aren't supposed to change it! You're just supposed to post it! :)

Um. Late?

But I couldn't pare it down to just 15...I have to mull things...I also might have trouble following directions.

I had more than fifteen. I just put the first fifteen I thought of. That's part of what's interesting!

I am loving this meme. I will definitely have to give it a shot. (And I would love to know which one you have the urge to apologize for).

And YAY! for spreadsheets. I have much, much love for spreadsheets. And for fic. So a spreadsheet for fic is pretty much nirvana for me. :)

Yes! You should do it. It's neat seeing everyone's lists, and being reminded of things I haven't read in ages.

And I would love to know which one you have the urge to apologize for

Oh, okay. *g* Inherit the Stars. I mean, there are a number of books on this list that are a little dated, but for some reason that one (and its sequels) sticks out to me in particular?

So a spreadsheet for fic is pretty much nirvana for me

You sound like me! I was unreasonably gleeful about it.
