don't blink
Feb. 4th, 2013 05:22 pm1) Most people I know have a complicated relationship with the internet. Like, yay, it's so cool that we have all this nifty stuff! Boo, I am so much better at wasting my time than I have ever been before! Yay, blogs about anything you can possibly think of! Boo, crazy people commenting on every blog you can possibly think of! etc etc. Sometimes I think, wow, I really need to just turn off the computer and walk away for a month or two. (Though we all know I'd never really be able to do that!!!)
But then the lights go out at the Superbowl, and reaction on social media ranges from Zombie apocalypse! to Oh, see, *now* people care about post-Katrina infrastructure to Don't blink!!!11. Y'all, society may or may not be heading to hell on an IP packet, but we are going to be really damn funny on the way if it is. *g*
2) Comm pimping:
annerbhp just recently started up
the_lbd for all us Lizzie Bennet Diaries fanatics. Which was *excellent* timing as I had been wondering earlier that day if there was an LJ comm, but hadn't quite gotten around to looking for one yet. Come join in the fun!
3) Speaking of the internet, I spent part of this morning fixing mistakes in the last fic I posted. I was sort of in a hurry when I put it up (since the holiday season was waning pretty quickly and I wanted to slide in under the wire) and despite the best efforts of my beta, I kept messing with stuff on my own and well ... you know how that ends. Missing words, extra phrases, blah blah blah. But seriously, you guys, updating a fic that lives four different places is completely ridiculous (though it would only be three if I'd actually crossposted from dreamwidth to lj, I suppose). I still haven't edited the version on ff.net yet. I need to let go of one of these archives, and I suppose the logical thing to do is to stop actually posting on my journal and just link from there to the bigger archives but ... I am very attached to having my fic posted on my journal, and I need the dreamwidth backup of that, and and and. Idk. Fanfic problems, I haz them.
On a similar topic, what's the general feeling about linking fics on tumblr? Are people doing that? I have seen some people doing that. Seriously, I need another place to post links like I need a migraine or something, but so much of fandom seems to have moved that direction. Then again my tumblr has like 14 followers, and most of it is people from around here, so it all just seems silly. Here, let me show you my social media awkwardness ....
4) I really need another posting format besides numbered lists. Comic strip? Haiku? Interpretive dance? lol
