Okay. [personal profile] ziparumpazoo says I should take baby steps with this 'that was kind of a difficult summer but school's back in and I want to post again on lj because I miss fandom' thing, and I always listen to zip because she is clever, so. Baby steps. TV things!

1. Current status of my West Wing rewatch (a little earlier than usual this year) = "Hi, Senator. Why don't you take your legislative agenda and shove it up your ass?" Nothing like Josh Lyman being a jackass to annoying pompous people to make your day brighter. That being said, this rewatch so far seems to be the Toby Ziegler rewatch, with occasional veering into the CJ Cregg rewatch and the Charlie and Zoey rewatch. Though honestly every rewatch is the CJ Cregg rewatch at some point along the way.

Also, I have said this before but it bears repeating. I do love Josh/Donna, but why is there not more Josh/Joey Lucas fic out there? Like the AU where she takes Josh and Bartlet's advice in her first appearance and runs for office and she and Josh clash all the time until one day they suddenly don't? Idk. I love Joey and Marlee Matlin.

2. I am so annoyed about Longmire being cancelled that I actually tweeted at A&E TV, which is not a thing I generally do. Because what are they *doing*? Argh. Hope it gets picked up elsewhere, but I admit my optimism is thin on this one. It's kind of a niche show. If it doesn't, I'm going to need someone to write me long, epic fic about How It All Should Have Ended, plz.

3. Endeavour. Is anyone else watching this? I have just finished mainlining series 2. I need people to talk to about it before my head explodes.

4. I am currently in my "waiting to get over the last Doctor before I watch the new one" phase of Doctor Who. As in, I actually still haven't watched Matt Smith's last episode, okay? This is not a new phenomenon, though - it took me more than a season to start watching again after Tennant left. I just tend to treat the show as related mini-series and binge watch a lot of it at once rather than keeping up as it goes along all the time. Somebody motivate me. Am I missing fabulous TV?

5. There is no five. There might once have been, but if so I forgot. OH! Not TV, but the next Seanan McGuire/October Daye book comes out Sept. 2. Happy happy day! :)

1) I am officially sick and tired of being sick and tired.

2) I don't really write while I'm sick and tired. I was making some actual progress on some things, and then November came, or maybe the back half of October, and just ... UGH.

3) I also don't write when I'm watching The West Wing. I mean, I try, but it just does not happen. I can't decide whether to blame Aaron Sorkin or Allison Janney.

4) Speaking of The West Wing. I am an inveterate Josh/Donna shipper and all, but I want to know why there is not more Josh/Joey fanfic out there.

5) Someday when I am less sick and tired I will write a post with more words than this. *nods*

So this just totally made my morning. Up front: this is a political ad for Mary McCormack's sister, who is running for State Supreme Court in Michigan. For purposes of this journal, however, it is a West Wing mini-reunion! The politics isn't bad, I promise - it's basically just a plug for voting in non-partisan elections. But it's got Josh and CJ and Toby and ... why are you still reading this? Just go watch it already. :)

Been meaning to post most of these for quite a while. Thought I had some more I meant to post, but the bookmarks are eluding me. I'm sure they'll turn up eventually, though!

Always Darkest by [profile] _astralis (Stargate SG-1, PG-13, Sam/Jack). Post-Ethon. After everything that happened on Tegalus, it takes a while to put the broken pieces back together. Sam and Jack being together in their own way while the universe insists on making life really damn hard. I love this sort of fic, and this one is very well done.

The Ballad of Mirrim and Menolly's Ride by faviconEdonohana (Dragonriders of Pern, Teen, Menolly, Mirrim, Path). Menolly, Mirrim, and Path travel through times that were, will be, and might have been in a desperate quest to warn Pern of a deadly new threat. Kind of like a five things that never happened, except instead, it's all tied together into one fabulous story. Hits all of my what-if, road-not-travelled fic kinks. Plus, Menolly and Mirrim being awesome and clever and many good things! Highly recommended.

The Long Wait of Becoming by faviconAnnakovsky (Chronicles of Narnia, Teen, Lucy Pevensie with a tiny bit of Lucy/Caspian). A look at Lucy and what it's like to be from two worlds at the same time. Love the reflective voice Lucy has here.

The Husband of Sha-uri by [personal profile] jedibuttercup (Mummy/Stargate SG-1, PG-13, Daniel Jackson, Evie O'Connell).
Evie could not be certain, but it sounded a great deal like the Ancient Egyptian equivalent of "Oh, no, not again," which struck her as a rather bizarre thing for a newly awakened mummy to say. Falls under the category of 'already recced everywhere', but I like it so here it is anyway. Pretty much what it says on the tin.

Lieutenant Bennet's Visit by faviconBeatrice_Otter (Temeraire/Pride and Prejudice, Teen, Elizabeth Bennet, Jane Bennet, Darcy). Elizabeth’s reality is far different from her sisters’. Elizabeth raised in the Corps instead of with her family. Clever.

Less Traveled By by [profile] quaggy_mire. (The West Wing, G, Josh/Donna and Toby) Post-season 6 AU. Donna was the last person Toby expected to see... Nostalgia factor for an old fandom that I don't read much anymore: Josh/Donna fic that just made me smile a lot. Hard to go wrong with that if you ask me.

My Master's Secret Mission by faviconDavid Hines (I Dream of Jeannie, G, Jeannie, Major Anthony Nelson, Major Roger Healey, Colonel Bellows). My Master has given me a DIARY! He says that now I can write down things that happened, so I will be able to remember them! Speaking of nostalgia .... Hilarious, with a perfect Jeannie voice.

Wait Wait Don't Eat Me by faviconNestra (National Public Radio, G) We're going to be cutting our show a little short today, because, as you may have heard, there's an apocalypse happening! But we didn't let the election of Barack Obama stop us, and we're not going to let the zombie hordes stop us either." NPR + ZOMBIES. If that doesn't make you read this, I cannot help you.

For [livejournal.com profile] supplyship, because late birthday presents are fun, right? Hon, I just can't seem to make your birthday on time no matter what I do, but I hope you like your present anyway!

Title: What's Next
Fandom: Stargate SG-1/The West Wing
Rating: Teen
Characters: Jed Bartlet, Admiral Fitzwallace, Toby Ziegler, Josh Lyman, Carol Fitzpatrick, C.J. Cregg, Jack O'Neill, Daniel Jackson, Donna Moss, Sam Carter, Abbey Bartlet
Pairings: Jed/Abbey, references to Sam/Jack but nothing 'on screen' so to speak
Season/Timeline: Post-series for SG-1. Anytime you like for TWW, but AU as will be obvious. Also, inter-show timeline consistency is for wimps. *nods*
Word Count: ~4000
Summary: Five conversations about the Stargate Program that happened at the White House.

A/N: [livejournal.com profile] supplyship gave me a Stargate/West Wing prompt ages and ages ago. I didn't quite manage to write exactly what she prompted, but I did shamelessly steal (with permission) a number of the great ideas she gave me. So if you like this, thank her! Also, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] a_loquita for the always fabulous beta reading. :)

I seem to have temporarily given up writing again, despite spending a decent amount of time *trying* (although I find that complaining on my journal sometimes fixes that, so here I am, complaining). Thus:

1) Yet another ficrec:

Have Faith by [livejournal.com profile] rachel500. Five things Cam did after 1939, from the latest [livejournal.com profile] sg1_five_things prompt collection. Gen.

2) Somewhat eclectic icons:

SG-1, NCIS, Anne of Green Gables, and The West Wing. I ... might have made a lot of Ziva icons, relatively speaking. I think it was a protest, because during my brief foray into NCIS fandom, I found a whole lot of Ziva hate, and it made me kind of unhappy. Since there was no Ziva fic in my head, I made icons instead. *g* Anyway, free to good homes if anyone happens to be interested.

Total Icon Count: 22

Teasers:

TEASER! Icon 005 TEASER! Icon 013 TEASER! Icon 018

Icons Here! )

Also I watched the new CotG last night, and you guys, it is seriously, seriously pretty.

Because it's been nearly two weeks since I posted, somehow? Eep. Life, it is busy! Anyway, these are mostly flashfics, because that's what I (and my short attention span) have been reading of late. :)

Five Days in a Hundred by [livejournal.com profile] rgcraeg

SG-1, Sam/Jack-ish but mostly Sam, PG. Five missing scenes from A Hundred Days. Tiny but lovely snapsnots from Sam's hundred days.

Snowfall by [livejournal.com profile] janejosiane

West Wing, Josh/Donna, unrated but PG works. A bittersweet encounter after Inauguration, told in vivid little scene-lets. First Josh/Donna I'd read in a very long time, and I really enjoyed it.

In The Sun by [livejournal.com profile] urban_stoop

West Wing, CJ/Danny, PG. I can't do much better than the writer's summary of this one: I picture you in the sun, wondering what went wrong. CJ/Danny, worlds apart and imagining each other. The way they are, and the way they see each other, I just love it.

Cat and Mousetraps by [livejournal.com profile] silerswench

Sanctuary, John and Helen, Mature. I'll quote the writer's summary on this one, too: He's followed her for a century, keeping to the shadows, just waiting for her eyes to close. Fabulous John Druitt voice, I think. I'll put a warning on this one because it is John Druitt, and while it's short, it's on the dark side. The rating's not for sex or actual violence, but John is watching Helen in a way that could possibly be disturbing.
